Cycling on country lanes near Horsham

April 9, 2013 by Clive 4 Comments

I went out cycling on Saturday as part of my 30 Days of Biking for April. It wasn’t a particularly long cycle ride but I really enjoyed the trip. The route was on country lanes north of Horsham and I’ve done it a few times before. However, I want to highlight the route because it’s an easy way to get away from it all on some quiet country lanes between Horsham, Rusper and towards Ifield (near Crawley).

Anyway, here’s the route:

This is a 17 mile ride for me but the distance will depend where in Horsham you start from. The route is entirely on-road so it’s suitable for any type of bicycle. I did it on my mountain bike so I averaged 12 mph on the route (approx. 1 hour 40 mins to complete the trip).

Despite living in the busy south east of England, it’s still very easy to find quiet cycling routes and this is one of them. Give it a try next time you need somewhere to cycle near Horsham!

    Hi Clive

I thought I knew most of the routes round Horsham, but this looks like it has new & potentially interesting bits! Have you got step by step instructions anywhere :hopeful:

    Many thanks!

Hi Gail, I don’t have step-by-step instructions at the moment but I can probably dig out a GPS file for use with a bike nav or smartphone cycling app. Is that any use to you?

        Hi

That would be great, if you don’t mind? I don’t have a bike nav, but I do have a smartphone cycling app (MapMyRide). Can you see my eMail address on this thing..?

        Thanks loads!

Hi Gail, actually have just realised that if you go to the Share Your Adventure site where I tracked the ride, http://www.shareyouradventure.com/map/google/CliveCycling/6th-April-2013, there’s a .gpx file link on the page (near the date, top centre). Save that somewhere, then transfer to phone/MapMyRide.
