I’m away on a day’s cycle ride shortly (reported here, More Cycling in Kent: From Canterbury to the Coast) and I’ve been getting organised over the last day or so. I have made sure that my mountain bike is ready and will be taking the usual cycling gear but it also struck me that quite a bit of my cycling these days is concerned with more modern technology. Here’s what I will be using on the ride:
- HTC Desire smartphone
- ViewRanger GPS mapping and tracking app [reviewed here]
- Instamapper GPS tracking app
- PowerTraveller PowerMonkey Classic mobile charger
Last but not least, a trip meter on the bike!
I could combine several of these into one by using a GPS-enabled trip meter like the Garmin Edge 200 but I also need my GPS device to work with the Social Hiking website which I use for live tracking of the route (combined with posting of Twitter and photos if I have the time during stops!)
Thinking back a few years, I wouldn’t have used any of these! That’s progress I guess.
