InstaMapper is back!

November 25, 2013 by Clive 1 Comment

Late last year, the InstaMapper GPS tracking service closed down. I used the service for tracking my cycling trips and showing them on the Social Hiking website. It worked well and the Android app was error free and had relatively low battery usage. At that time, it seemed that the service had closed for good but now, a new development team have taken over and… InstaMapper is back!

InstaMapper can be used for GPS tracking of vehicles and for tracking outdoor activities like walking and cycling. You can view your routes and manage your devices on the InstaMapper website and there’s a new Android app with an iOS app in development. I’ve only used the Android app on a quick walking trip so far but I’m hoping to try the new service on a few cycling trips over the coming weeks.

There’s also a web API which should allow for InstaMapper GPS points and data to be shared with other websites, like Social Hiking (I hope).

Anyway, it’s great to see that InstaMapper is back and I wish the new InstaMapper team every success.
